How to Cut Silicone Hoses | DIY Professional Results

February 10, 2022 1 min read

To make the cut, you will need:

  • Hose clamp
  • Razor blade or box knife
  • Ruler
  • Lighter *optional

This will involve sharp tools and open flame, so be sure to take precautions and work safely!

Measure the correct length you need to cut, and place the clamp to that length. Make sure the clamp is straight, and tighten it down.

Lightly cut along the edge of the clamp, using it as a guide. The trick is to rotate the hose while keeping the blade in place. This will take a few passes to get all the way through.

When you get to the clamp's housing, loosen the clamp enough to rotate it away from the area that needs to be cut. Line up the clamp so that it is flush with the edge and tighten it back down.

Once the hose has been cut off, check for any frayed fibers. You can use a lighter to burn off the extra fibers. The flame doesn't need to be in direct contact with the hose (about 2-3 inches away is good). Try to keep the flame moving to prevent the hose from discoloring.

Now you're ready to cut silicone hoses like a pro. As with any skill, practice makes perfect. Take your time, be patient, be diligent, and the results will speak for themselves.
