BMW: Out With The Old, In With The Durable 57-2083 / 57-2088 / 57-1674

April 12, 2022 2 min read

The 3 series is BMW’s best selling model and has lasted 7 generations since its debut in 1975. This entry level luxury sports car has become a staple for those looking for a compact vehicle that excels in both agility and driving experience. The E36 3 series was one that earned recognition for having virtually bulletproof engines as they delivered outstanding longevity when given the proper care. To this day, these engines are still considered some of the most reliable engines that BMW has ever built. However, this does not run true for other components within the engine bay. The most infamous is the cooling system as most have failed at one point or another due to various reasons.

Cooling Issues
The most common issues for the E36 come from the radiator, water pump, coolant hoses, and expansion tank. Because many of the components in the cooling system are made of plastic, regular use over extended periods of time causes them to leak once they become brittle and crack. Oftentimes, owners are then faced with overheating problems, developing warped engine heads, and risking total engine failure. With these vehicles having been from the 90s, it’s a good idea to replace your old parts now or face bigger problems with bigger price tags down the line.

Coolant Hose Kits
Seeing the need for durable and high temperature resistant hoses as a direct replacement for models of the M50, M52, S50 and S52 engines, we utilized the OEM coolant hoses as our base from which to work. We mapped out the cooling diagram for each model and compiled a comprehensive list of coolant hoses to ensure that all pieces were covered. The HPS Coolant Hose Kits for the E36 are made with 3-ply reinforced high temperature silicone and include stainless steel embossed clamps that don’t damage silicone like many worm-gear clamps do. Even with high engine bay temperatures, our hoses can withstand up to 350F time and again without any issues.

Keep Your E36 in Legendary Condition
Although the E36's have remarkably dependable engines, no vehicle is safe from the wear and tear from being driven over the years. When it's time for your E36 to have its cooling system overhauled, be sure to add an HPS coolant hose kit to your checklist.

These kits are rated 4/5 in installation difficulty and take approximately 3 hours to complete with experienced mechanical skill recommended. If you only need certain components for each of these kits, we have those available too.
