Toyota Supra MK4 2JZ-GE Gets a Performance Upgrade with a New Intake 827-715

March 16, 2022 2 min read

Originally derived from the Toyota Celica, the Supra has a legacy that is undeniable. This grand tourer was first introduced in 1978 and has since become Toyota’s most famous sports car. The iconic Supra nameplate made its return for a 5th generation after a decade-long hiatus. Its heroic return in 2019 was met with much excitement as it reignited the interest of loyal enthusiasts. At the same time, many older models have become quite collectible.

What Drove Us to Make This Kit
Returning to the automotive spotlight, the Supra has become a hot ticket car for many aftermarket companies to target. Having made parts for the ‘97-’98 MK4 NA Supra, we realized that we left out owners of the earlier non-VVTI MK4 Supra. There were no doubts in our minds that a performance intake for the ‘93-’96 Supras would be an excellent addition to our existing fleet of induction products.

Our Development Process
As we do with many of our projects, we started with a 3D scan using the FARO Design Arm and created a point cloud to map out the engine bay on Solidworks. This enabled us to design and create a prototype pipe with the best fitment. We then designed a custom heat shield and included our signature HPS filter to add to the kit. One unique feature is the fact that you can utilize our heat shield and filter with the adapter we provide or keep the factory air box and just install the pipe. By keeping the MAF sensor in the stock location, we were able to utilize a modular design to give consumers options to personalize their intake system.

Results
Once development and dyno testing concluded, our 827-715 intake kit for the 1993-1996 Toyota Supra 3.0L NA was able to show gains of 10.3 horsepower and 10.7 lb-ft of torque. The iconic 2JZ-GE engine that sits in this car is well known for its power, reliability and efficiency. With an HPS performance upgrade, boasting greater capabilities comes with one easy install. This kit is rated 2/5 in installation difficulty and can be completed in approximately 40 minutes with basic mechanical skill. We have video guided instructions linked at the end of this article to guide you through our easy step-by-step installation. Minimize your input of effort and maximize the output of power in your legendary Supra.
